How does it work?
Botox is a type of cosmetic injectable that contains a purified form of botulinum toxin. It is sold in "units" and the number of units needed is dependent on treatment area. When injected into the muscles of the face, Botox works by blocking the signals that normally cause those muscles to contract. This temporarily relaxes the muscles and smooths out wrinkles and fine lines in the overlying skin.
What to expect during treatment?
During a Botox treatment, you can expect a relatively quick and straightforward procedure. Our nurse will clean the area to be treated and apply a numbing cream or ice to help minimize any discomfort. The nurse will use a small needle to inject Botox into the targeted muscles. You may feel a slight pinch or pressure at the injection site, but the procedure is generally well-tolerated. tt typically takes 30 - 60 minutes depending on number of units needed to achieve the desired effect. It's important to know the effects of Botox typically start to become noticeable within a few days after the injection
What about post-treatment care?
You can resume your normal activities immediately, but we advise to avoid lying down for a few hours and to avoid strenuous activity for the rest of the day. You may also experience some temporary redness or swelling at the injection site, but this should subside within a few hours to a few days.
How do you maintain results?
The effects of Botox typically start to become noticeable within a few days after the injection. The full results of the treatment generally appear within about 2 weeks. The duration of the results can vary from person to person and depends on factors such as the area treated, the amount of Botox injected, and the individual's metabolism. On average, the effects of Botox can last anywhere from 3 - 4 months. After this time, the muscles gradually regain their ability to contract, and the wrinkles and fine lines may start to reappear. Repeat quarterly treatments are usually necessary to maintain the results.
