Vampire Facial (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, also known as the ‘Vampire Facelift’ or ‘Dracula Therapy’, works on the basis that the body’s own natural healing powers may slow and even reverse the ageing process. It is a revolutionary repair system that places growth factors in the exact location where you want the skin to repair and rejuvenate itself.
How does it work?
Platelet plasma, which is the component of your blood that is known for being highly effective in treating burns and skin injuries, is activated and injected into the chosen area at an extraordinary rate of 150 strokes/second. This creates numerous controlled micro-channels in the targeted layers which trigger the non-emergency wound healing process of the skin. Dormant fibroblasts become active and multiply, increasing the production of new collagen and elastin fibers without causing any scarring. As a result, the skin appears smoother, tighter, and more even in tone. Scars and wrinkles are minimized and skin cells remain healthy and active for a long time following treatment.
What to expect during treatment?
Vampire Facials are performed by our nurses and your blood will be drawn. The blood will then be spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet plasma from the red blood cells. Any makeup on the skin will be removed using a wipe, and antiseptic will be applied to the injection site. A topical local anaesthetic will then be applied to the skin of the injection site for 30 minutes. The PRP will then be injected into the skin, with aseptic technique, in the desired area using very fine needles. Injections will be given multiple times in multiple locations in order to give an overall improvement to the area. Vampire Facials usually take 60-90 minutes. It is very important that patients eat and drink a lot of fluids before attending their appointment. This will enable the blood to be withdrawn more easily.
What about post-treatment care?
The downtime after Vampire Facials is minimal. Its immediate side effects are tolerable, but avoiding strenuous activities for the first few days minimizes the risk of trauma to the treated area. Additionally, briefly limiting your activities and avoiding strong pressure on your face helps retain the fluid at the site for as long as possible. For a minimum of 5 hours, avoid washing your skin and exposing the treated area to direct high heat, or engage in activities that will get you wet or cause you to sweat. When exposed to sun, always use sun screen SPF 30 or above. You may clean your face with a gentle cleanser before bed. Redness or sensitivity might be present and is normal for 24 to 48 hours.
How do you maintain results?
Most patients receive a Vampire Facial every few weeks during their first therapy sessions. Maintenance sessions are done 2 to 4 times each year. You may still get other treatments between maintenance sessions to make your results even better.
