How does it work?
Dermal fillers work by restoring lost volume, smoothing out wrinkles, and enhancing facial features. Most fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to hydrate and plump the skin. When injected into the skin, the filler attracts water molecules and binds to them, creating a fuller, smoother appearance. Some fillers also stimulate the production of collagen, a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin, further enhancing the results.
What to expect during treatment?
The nurse will first clean the treatment area and may apply a numbing cream or ice to minimize discomfort. The filler will then be injected into specific points using a small needle or cannula. You may feel a slight pinch or pressure during the injection, but most patients report minimal discomfort. The entire treatment typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the treatment area and the amount of filler needed.
What about post-treatment care?
Avoid touching or manipulating the treated area for at least 6 hours. You can gently use ice packs on the treated area during the first 12 hours. Do not use any skin products not recommended by our clinic for the first 24 hours. Avoid exercise, alcohol, and exposure to high temperatures and sunlight for the first 48 hours. It's also important to stay hydrated, eat a healthy diet, and avoid smoking. Any side effects such as swelling, redness, or bruising should be expected and will typically subside within a few days. If you experience any persistent or concerning side effects, contact us immediately.
How do you maintain results?
Wait until swelling has subsided: It's important to wait until any swelling from your initial treatment has subsided before considering a touch-up treatment. This can take up to two weeks, depending on the treatment area and the amount of filler used. The timing and frequency of touch-up treatments will depend on how your body metabolizes it. Typically, you may want to plan for touch-ups every 3-6 months to ensure the best results.
